ATTN: RPGs, and New Review Standards

I'm going to be totally honest with you guys, and gals. I have failed you on two reviews here at "OtakuDante's Gaming Inferno". One being "Drakengard", and the other 'Pier Solar HD". I did play deep into each game, and honestly felt myself having fun during said playthroughs, but I didn't fully complete either. I "assumed (we all know what assume does, right?)" that the game would be just as good throughout in each case, but through fellow journalists I found out otherwise. It definitely makes me look like an ass, and for that I humbly apologize. At this point I can understand you looking to other sources for honest gaming critiques, but know that I stick by the rest of my reviews, and that I aim to improve upon the previously mentioned failures. For the longest time my work as a solo gaming, and adult entertainment journalist has been demanding, and overly so at times. I've found my own time limited by the full-time nature of the job, and have made a couple shortcuts (Drakengard & Pier Solar HD) to catch up. This is inexcusable, and once again I humbly apologize. From this point forward, in the light of these two learning experiences, I will never again rush an RPG review. I will play it to the end, and give my review afterwards. The same goes for any game of any genre. That is my promise to those who wish to stay.

In regards to "Pier Solar HD" you will find that I think it is a good game in the area of graphics, sound, and character design. I also think that it is not a complete failure. It does have it's issues in game design though, and sometime those issues are outright frustrating. +Defunct Games pointed out to me this evening the battle system actually gets worse than I had previously mentioned later on in the game. This greatly concerns me as a gamer and a journalist. According to him there are spans of time (up to 3 hours) in which healing options are scarce making the player have to flee from the many aggressive battles that happen every three minutes. This, with the unfair battle system that I mentioned in my review comes together to create a sh*t storm of problems. +Defunct Games also mentions that later on the game becomes less about story, and more about running errands for NPC characters. I firmly believe what +Defunct Games has said as he has played more of the game than me, and is an honest journalist.

As far as 'Drakengard' goes it's practically the same story. I had fun during what I played of the game (which was fairly deep into it) with the exception of a few issues, but later found out through another fellow journalist that the game was extremely flawed at the end. It went from having the lesser issues I mentioned to having a major issue regarding a last boss fight which incorporated rhythm style gameplay mixed with the 'Panzer Dragoon' style dragon combat that the game is known for. I did not see that coming at all, and once again I "assumed" the game was decent enough without having fully completed it. I have to apologize again for the huge mistake. It is inexcusable. I should have known better, especially with game developers half-assing things on a regular basis.

In light of my mistakes you as a reader have an important choice to make. You can stick with me, and trust that I will right my wrongs, or you can move on to another journalist. Either way I will totally understand your decision. I will, as I have said, make it my policy from hence forth to play through every game I get no matter how long it takes, especially if said game has a definite ending. There will be no rushing, and no half-assing on my part anymore. That is my final word. Take it as you see fit.
