Do you like burgers? Do you like the cartoony Cuphead character style art? Do you like puzzle platformers? Do you like it all with a side order of local multiplayer? If you do chances are you'll like this re-imagining of Data East's retro Burgertime experience. Complete with four fully fledged modes of play that are playable solo, and with up to three other players you'll be tasked as Pepper Pete to take on the Food Foes as well as both of said characters as they clash in the ultimate food fight party extravaganza. You'll find that along with the new art direction, new modes of play, and new challenges comes a Solo, Main, Challenge, and Battle Burger option where perfecting your playthrough is the key to a high score. Whether you are trying to earn the gold star ranking, the trophies for feats accomplished, or are going classic with higher tiers of difficulty for that global leaderboard position you'll need to master your maneuvers across obstacle laden ladder accessible towers as you use pepper to fend of fiendish Food Foes in an attempt to make burgers layer by layer. It is not an easy undertaking as this time around pepper is somewhat limited, and the environmental hazards to overcome while you dodge Mr. Hotdog, Mr. Pickle, Mr. Egg, and Mr. Donut are aplenty.

SENRAN KAGURA Peach Ball (NS)
Brave, and bold is Senran Kagura's provocative return to formula. Doing
what they were unable to do on the PlayStation 4 XSEED, Honey Parade
Games, and Tamsoft Corporoation bring back, in pinball form, what fans
of the series have loved from the beginning. A mature game featuring fun
loving fighting females who are unabashedly driven by their own
sexually fueled antics, and desires. Taking the tale from the usual
Shinobi school setting, and rivalry therein the developer weaves a sort
of side story that begins with a fighting game tournament at an arcade
joint run by Haruka. Five of the series femme fatale take to the
tournament with the goal to be the best of the best, and win the
ultimate prize. Only to encounter a wacky mishap brought on by the
contamination of a beastly formula confused for hand soap in the girls'
restroom. One of the girls, on pee break, washes her hands with Haruka's
misplaced Beastall, and becomes a sort of furry version of herself. A
young woman with doggy features, if you will. Through her affectionate
licking she spreads the affliction to the remaining four Shinobi girls, and
in turn they each transform into a different half-animal and half-human
hybrid. The resulting problem being that the longer they are under the
influence of Beastall the more animal-like they become. To counter the concoction Haruka conjures up an odd plan to put the girls in a special
pinball game, and cure them with a special ball. That, and through
shared memories help them regain their human conscience.

Fate/EXTELLA LINK (PS4)
This entry in the continuing Fate/Stay Night gaming series, which was adapted from an ongoing manga visual novel of the same namesake, extends upon the lore in a more combat heavy experience in which master and servant micromanagement is the key to victory. The key to keeping SE.RA.PH from being Oracilized by Karna, and his growing army of shadow servant clones. SE.RA.PH being Earth's enigmatic Moon server which brings to life the virtual world you inhabit along with all of it's servant residents. Servants which are historical recreations of warriors from ages gone by. It is through the master that these servants are guided as well as summoned, and through said servants that said masters are protected. Thus creating, in layman's terms, a world of kings, queens and kingdoms.
In true mosou form, and within SE.RA.PH, you will ultimately play as a main servant (I chose Charlemagne) in the company of supporting servant troops under the guide of the master as you navigate gated labyrinths traveling from portal to portal while clearing out key enemies and protecting the master as well as the key supporting servants. It's manic multitasking in a somewhat streamlined fashion that makes Koei Tecmo's Dynasty Warriors look like a more tedious dragged on affair. From the base camp to the battlefield, and through a handful of increasingly difficult difficulty settings you will build bonds between master, and servant while you prepare them meticulously to face the threat to your virtual world, and it's housed NPCs. Including a complex set of main missions, and side missions with a progressive plot to forward.

Going back to it's 3DS roots "Senran
Kagura Burst Re:Newal" renews the old 2.5D presentation of the original
Nintendo handheld release allowing those dedicated PlayStation console
gamers who missed out the first go around the opportunity to bare
witness to the series' origin story. Not only did this entry point
receive a visual overhaul with newer graphics, but it is also
functionally fit for the PS4 controller. You'll get to experience the
story mode mission by mission throughout two different Shinobi
alliances' perspectives within 41 chapters each. Both "Ultimate Shadow",
and "Burst" with their good versus evil alignments offer replay value
in the form of three difficulty settings per mission, varying grades for
completion quality, and the usual assortment of obtainable unlockables
with which you can doll up your favorite femme fatales to your heart's
desire, and equip them with the tools of their trade. That as well as
videos, and music for after game enjoyment. Even the diorama mode
returns with the posing, and dressing opportunities for those looking
forward to that fan service feature. Speaking of fan service there are
plenty of revealing, and provocative poses as well as damaged Shinobi
attire to apply. While censorship is applied it is not aggressively so,
as you might assume. You'll still see the bewbie sparkles in
mid-transformation as one would expect returning to the series. That,
and the infamous bounce.

Senran Kagura: Peach Beach Splash (PS4)
If you like bouncy busty anime gals having fun with squirt guns then this latest Senran Kagura adventure might be for you. If however you are easily offended by censorship, or are a feminist you might not enjoy it so much. Personally I found it to be fun though quite perverted. That having been said I am a grown adult male who has seen worse in the way of sexuality, and who can handle adult content without getting butthurt over it. What XSEED, and Marvelous! provides here is mild in comparison to a lot of adult games, and is actually quite fun. The game, as it were features both single player, and multiplayer content with a new RPG card system that adds immense replay value. Returning are all the Shinobi gals from the previous series' entries as well as the mob battles, and character versus character scenarios. They are still with their resident clans, and leaders, but are switching things up with a demon appeasing ceremony of the splashy kind. One that is televised by "NewTube", and hosted by Senran Kagura's equivalent of Team Rocket in the form of Ms.S and Mr. K. The P1-Grand Prix which the girls are forcefully summoned to is in fact a ceremony in the guise of a televised squirt gun based sports event. The victor of the event will get any wish their heart desires, and in the process they'll stop a looming threat. There's wacky hijinks aplenty, and combative gameplay that's fun enough to whet your arena shooter whistle.

Nitroplus Blasterz: Heroines Infinite Duel (PS4)
I've seen anime fighters come, and go along with their interesting mechanics, their unusual character rosters, and their flashy special effects. I've seen most of them turn into virtual ghost towns that only dedicated Japanese gamers bother playing as well. I've even seen some of them do fairly better than others. The Guilty Gear, and Blazblue series comes to mind in regards to that latter remark. When it comes to XSEED's, and Marvelous' anime crossover, "Nitroplus Blasterz: Heroines Infinite Duel" I think the game lands somewhere in the middle of the mark. It's neither great, nor is it a huge disaster. I think this forty dollar fighter has something catchy, but at the same time feel that the asking price is a bit too steep even though it is on new-gen hardware. What you have to understand is that the developer went all out to make the game flashy, attractive, and functional in a fighting game sense but failed to offer the gamer some essentials that have become a must for fighting game fans. Sure it looks nice from the cover image to the main menus, and even the gameplay, but where it really counts it struggles a bit to captivate a genre veteran such as myself.

Akiba's Trip: Undead & Undressed (PS VITA)
As one might imagine from the details disclosed about this game you'll find that "Akiba's Trip: Undead & Undressed" has a title with multiple meanings. At heart the game is based around the real-life "Akihabara" district of Japan where the main entertainment culture thrives, and where people from all walks of life come to shop to their hearts content. Everything from gaming to yaoi, and even pop idol fandom is what makes up the social aspects of the community who frequents it's many pop culture oriented shops. As such you'll find that the portion of the title "Akiba" actually refers to 'Akihabara' in a shortened way rather than a person, or individual taking a trip. Another intended secret buried within the spelling of the game's title lies with a certain aspect of the gameplay, namely the interesting combat system that was applied. If you were to dislocate the apostrophe at the end of "Akiba", and move the "S" over to "Trip" you'd get the word "Strip" which coincides with the nature of the combat system.
Oddly enough undressing the undead, or 'Synthisters (Synthetic Vampires)' by beating the clothes off of them is a huge part of what you'll be tasked with doing after becoming a part of the undead population yourself. Since you are dealing with vampire-like citizens it only makes sense that exposing their unnatural skin to sunlight would do them in. In the game you, the gamer become the main male protagonist by name, and actions as you meet up with fellow persons of interest. With your Otaku Activist group known as MOGRA by your side, and your new found mysterious savior Shizuku you set out to rid Akihabara of Synthisters, and find a cure for your current state of being. Of course other characters you meet such as Shizuku, a female warrior of a different kind, will have their own objectives in mind as they lend a hand, or try to stop your efforts.

Happy Belated New Year!!!
Greetings all ye blog readers! The year is 2014, and there's lots of gaming goodness headed your way in the coming months. As I mentioned earlier I have already sent out several review inquiries in hopes of snagging some review material. So far I've only gotten two confirmations from retail game developers/PRs, but I'm sure more are on their way. Unfortunately not everyone has awoken from their holiday hibernation just yet. As far as what I'm going to cover this year goes I will be trying my hardest to cover all of the new NISA, ATLUS, XSEED, and Tecmo Koei RPGs. Without a doubt this will definitely be the year for great RPG experiences. I'm definitely looking forward to it, and hope that you are too.

Ys: Memories of Celceta (PS Vita)
Very rarely are us westerners gifted the opportunity to play an up-scaled re-imagining of a Japan only title. Through Nihon Falcom, and XSEED though this rare chance was made a reality with the release of Ys IV's reinvented successor "Ys: Memories of Celceta". The game itself was recreated from the bottom up in order to bring a wholly unique action RPG experience to those who have followed the series since it's early days. Along with the 'Ys IV' back story comes Ys 7's menu system, and combat mechanics. Fans of both previously released Ys installments will no doubt feel right at home with the unique mixture of gameplay features regardless of the altered graphics, and applications. Locales from the past installments will make their way back into the picture as you follow a man of legend named Adol Christin on a journey of discovery. Adol himself stumbles onto the scene, and out of the fabled forest of Celceta with no recollection whatsoever as to how he got there, or who exactly he is. Through an epic quest, and formidable peril you will take on the role of Adol as he, and his companions try to sort things out, and unravel the mysteries at hand.

Valhalla Knights 3 (PS VITA)
XSEED has produced some damn good games in their time. I for one thoroughly enjoyed my playthrough of "Killer is Dead" earlier this year. Seeing as that game held my interest throughout it's entirety I expected great things from "Valhalla Knights 3". Jumping into a game series three games in often times does not help one to understand the plot well enough though, but after viewing the trailers I figured I'd give it a shot anyways. I remember finding the perverted touch screen mini-games shown in the trailers to be an interesting point, but what really held my attention was the fact that this was a JRPG with online modes of play. Whenever I see, or hear the word "online" in an RPG of any kind I get excited. After several rounds of email inquiries I finally got my hands on "Valhalla Knights 3", and after spending about a week's worth of time playing it I think I understand why the PR was reluctant to hand over a review code.

Blog Update (Sept. 10, 2013) - "PR BS & Blog Progress"
What's up Inferno readers?
I've been quite the busy journalist as of late. I've been dealing with PR who want to see me fail, and other PR who are more than willing to work with me. It's just the way things go in the journalism biz. I'm glad I had the balls to email Kristiana Suess of EA a link to my article "Let's Talk - "Proper PR Etiquette" though. While it may not have helped EA's, or FortySeven's opinion of me it's something I feel they needed to read.
Too many PR agencies, and game developers have poor opinions of us journalists, and think that our jobs pale in comparison to theirs. The fact is that their job which they get paid handsomely for only requires the copying, pasting, and sending of emails along with some phone calls. In the end it is a paying job, and if done correctly it will not only help us journalists help the PRs succeed, but will also help all of us keep the gaming companies we are trying to support afloat in these uncertain economic times.

Killer is Dead (PSN/PS3)
Like a modern day grindhouse film, SUDA51's story about a hired American killer with a mysterious past unfolds in a way that is not unlike Quentin Tarantino's "Kill Bill" movie series, or some of his other more recent films. This game, or interactive experience as I've grown to know it was given the uniquely appropriate title of "Killer is Dead" by it's collaboration of developers, and publishers (XSEED, Grasshopper Manufacture, Kadokawa Games & SUDA51). In the simplest of explanations that I can think of I'd say that it is an over-the-top hyper stylized gorefest filled with flirtatiously sexy mini-games, epic boss battles, combo based combat, and an interesting cast of individuals who are all a part of a mythology like none other.
Mondo Zappa who just so happens to be the main protagonist of this otherworldly plot is a guy with a mysterious past, an augmented arm, and several unanswered questions. As a hired killer Mondo willingly does the bidding of another gangster looking gentleman who also deals in the profitable business of executions. This employer who looks an awful lot like the gun armed Barrett of FF7 (Final Fantasy VII) goes by the name Bryan. Along with his interest in taking on contracts Bryan also has an odd, and often times unreadable sense of humor about him. With Bryan's guidance, the assistance of a female accountant named Vivienne, and the help of a younger "moe" style female secretary named Mika, Mondo sets forth time, and time again to fulfill contracts as well as earn a living so that he can support his more perverse hobbies.
