Trailer Park King (XBLIG): "The Next Evolution In Trailer Park Humor"

Freelance Games recently released their new XBLIG game 'Trailer Park King' for 80 msp. I had played the trial before asking them for a review code. The trial made me laugh so hard I couldn't resist a chance to see the full game, and deliver my verdict to you guys. While the simple art style may turn away most gamers, I found that there was something special about this title. Freelance Games did an excellent job in telling this strange, and unique tale of a guy named 'King' ...

Trailer Park King is what you would call a 'point & click' type of adventure game. It actually had the highest content rating in Mature Content, Sex, and Violence (3/3). For those of you who are familiar with the XBLIG rating system you'll know what I'm talking about. I played through the entire game, and I can definitely say the mature content is there as well as the sexual themes, and Violence. I seriously suggest that young kids be kept away from this title. With that being said I still found the humor in the game to be enjoyable. I am a grown man, so I'm used to that kind of thing in the rated 'R-Rated & PG-13' comedys I watch. If I were to rate this game by movie standards, I'd say it would get a 'PG-13' rating. If I were to rate it by game standards it would receive the 'M' rating. That may sound a bit odd, but 'PG-13' standards are what 'R-Rated' movies used to be years ago.

The game has you (The Gamer) taking on the role of 'King', the king of the trailer park. In his wild dude-like personality he honestly believes he is both the King, and God's gift to women. The trailer park in which King resides is composed of multiple trailers stacked upon each other. Sort of like an apartment building. There are only a handful of trailers in the game. The occupants of these trailers are girls for the most part. There are also a few strange male characters in the mix. As far as the girls go they all have different voice actors that even includes a French-Canadian. As you play you'll find that each character in this game has an exaggerated voice, and personality that fits the trailer park theme. The one exception is the French-Canadian Girl 'Celine who owns her own adult oriented shop.

There are easter eggs (hidden items related to various things) in Trailer Park King's various locations. I won't give away the details but there are some television references, as well as some video game references/items scattered among the trailers. The music in the game also suits it's theme. Within King's trailer park you will find a diner, a hospital, a game room, a bar, and an adult shop with everything from naughty magazines to alcoholic beverages. The inhabitants of the trailer park definitely make the game stand out with their wacky behavior.

Trailer Park King's story is divided into three acts in which you must talk with the trailer park's occupants. You'll find that revisiting the same trailers/people is necessary to advance the story. Each trailer in the park also includes various interactive items that will be used for completing the acts. King's story is both unique, and bizarre. The whole game kind of reminded me of a mixture of 'Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure', and 'Dude, Where's My Car?'. Talking to the citizens of this towering trailer park is very amusing, and quite entertaining. King's cool, calm, and chillin' attitude made for a very enjoyable video game narrative. The girl's were also rather humorous with their wide variety of accents.

I know to most gamers Trailer Park King probably doesn't appear to be that great. I honestly found it to be a fun, and simple adventure with lots of hidden things to look at though. Freelance Games did an excellent job with the story in this game, and the art style was very inviting. The cast of voice actors/actresses involved also brought the game to life in a funny way. I definitely recommend this game for any gamer who's looking for something new, and something that'll add a bit of humor to their life. For 80 msp you're getting a gaming adventure that will make you laugh (even if it is on the inside), and keep you entertained for the duration of the game. It's not the longest game, but it'll definitely keep your undivided attention.
