Mortal Kombat (Xbox 360): "Out of the SSFIV Frying Pan & Into the Fire"

Most of you that follow me on Twitter, or Youtube know that I have major issues with fighting game spammers, and online gaming tomfoolery (foolishness ^.^). When I pay $64 for a game I expect the online mode to be enjoyable. Mortal Kombat totally fails in this area. The main reason I got Mortal Kombat was for the online mode. I had recently owned it for the PS3, but never actually got to play online due to the Sony hacking incident.  I figured that since the game was getting so much good hype that it would be worth buying again. I was definitely anxious to try the online since I had missed out earlier.

After purchasing the game, and unlocking all the necessary things I decided to start doing some online matches. At first it seemed really good. There was hardly any lagging, and the opponents I faced weren't that bad. Unfortunately the more I played  the more I began to realize that MK9's online was worse than that of Super Street Fighter IV's. Other players were constantly picking spamming characters like Scorpion, Ermac, Sub-Zero and Noob Saibot. It was actually ridiculous how many players chose Scorpion. I went a completely different route, and chose Kabal as my main guy. Kitana was a fall back character for me since she had good speed, and evasive moves. I honestly gave most players the benefit of the doubt, and trusted that they wouldn't be cheap. I ended up being totally wrong 99.9% of the time. I don't know what's wrong with MK9 players!? They spam most of the time, choose spamming characters, and quit right before you have the chance to finish them. In fact last night I was playing, and for an hour I played against nothing but early quitters! What gives!? Obviously the developers of Mortal Kombat failed to see how easy they made it for MK9 players to get out of a match. At least SSFIV didn't make it that easy.

I've only had this game for a few days now, and I'm already feeling like it was a waste of money. Some of my friends informed me that it was probably the time of day I was playing. I can actually believe that. I experienced the same thing in SSFIV:AE. I just hate to be limited to playing late at night, or early in the morning. If I pay top dollar for a game like this I expect to get my moneys worth out of it. That's the problem with online FPS, and Fighting games these days. The online lobbies are populated by kids who think cheating, spamming, and hacking is cool. I totally miss the days when competitive games weren't polluted by things like that. Unless the game developers figure out a good way to deal with these issues I can't see myself investing in anymore FPS or Fighting games. I'm sure as time goes on others will feel the same.
