The Daily Grind | A Poem by Brad Carver

The Daily Grind

In my room where there's things left not done

Where I pass the time just having fun

Not thinking about the consequences twice

Or the cost of selfishness , the costly price

I spend my time wastefully

As the military said it's SSDD

A routine that repeats on play

in and out through every day

I could do better, I know I could

but lost to me are the things I should

I can't for the life of me

set my deep seeded worries free

and thus I drown my sorrows in drink

not giving myself the time to think

Come what may through tribulation & toil

I'd rather indulge in the sweet nothings, the spoils

Until death comes calling with it's cold embrace

I'll give no thought to the daily chase

No dreams to dream, nor ambition to spare

Not a concern or worry not a single care.
