AI Limit (PS5) | REVIEW | A Dystopian Soulslike That Attempts to Push the Limits!!!

AI Limit is an action RPG that hit the PlayStation 5 with high expectations, blending fast paced combat with a dystopian sci-fi aesthetic. Developed by Sense Games, it aims to carve a niche in the crowded Soulslike genre, offering players a challenging experience wrapped in a visually striking package.

The game drops you into the boots of Arrisa, a customizable protagonist navigating a ruined world teeming with monstrous foes and cryptic lore. Combat is the core draw here. Think tight, responsive mechanics that demand precision and patience. You've got a mix of melee weapons and special abilities to juggle, with dodging and parrying being the key to surviving the onslaught of aggressive enemies. The PS5's hardware shines through with quick load times, making those inevitable retries less painful.

Visually, AI Limit leans hard into it's gritty, post-apocalyptic vibe. The environments are detailed, from crumbling cities to eerie wastelands with the DualSense's haptic feedback adding a nice layer of immersion, feeling the crunch of a well-timed strike is satisfying. That said, the art direction might not wow everyone. It's moody and atmospheric, but some areas can feel a bit samey after hours of exploration.

Story-wise, it's sparse and deliberately vague, which is par for the course in this genre. You'll piece together the narrative through environmental clues and brief NPC interactions, but don't expect a hand-held plot. It's intriguing enough to keep you curious, though it won't be the main reason you stick around.

Where AI Limit stumbles is in it's polish. Bugs and glitches like enemies clipping through walls or the occasional frame drops pop-up more than they should on a PS5 title. The difficulty curve can also feel uneven. Some bosses are brutal while others are pushovers, which might frustrate players looking for a consistent challenge. The customization options, while decent, don't quite hit the depths of genre giants, leaving character builds feeling a tad limited.

Overall, AI Limit is a solid stab at a Soulslike experience on the PS5. It's got the bones of something great including tight combat, a haunting world, and that addictive "one more try" hook, but it's held back by rough edges that keep it from true greatness. If you're a fan of the genre and don't mind some jank, it's worth a swing. Casual players might find the grind and quirks less forgiving, though. It's not a must play, but it's a respectable effort that shows promise for whatever Sense Games cooks up next.
