Music creates atmosphere in a gaming experience. Whether it be instrumental or with lyrics the action onscreen is amplified, and made more impactful. As gamers we all have that favorite track that played out during a battle, climactic scenario, or even during the rolling credits. Some music brought tears via associated memories. Like in a lot of life's pivotal moments music plays a significant role in defining who we are as an individual. Often times going hand in hand with societal group labels like goths, or nerds. With goths enjoying the darker more moody music while nerds enjoy their anime soundtracks. Whatever it may be music has changed during each generation of gaming console leading a cultural shift in tastes that only those living those times truly appreciate.
As a gamer what are some tracks that you recall enjoying from video games? Which tracks impacted your life? For me a couple standout among the crowd. Gekido's track by 'Apartment 26 (Backwards)' that was playable in CD player from the game disk had it's own metal vibe that fit the combat in-game. Then there's "I Am The Wind" by Cynthia Harrell which was featured in the ending credits of 'Castlevania: Symphony of the Night'. This jazzy heartfelt track with hard hitting lyrics made the journey from start to finish all the more rewarding, and memorable. It is gems like these that often times lead us to buy soundtracks, and repeat play the songs on our favorite music devices.
Music in gaming will forever go hand-in-hand as a complimentary pairing. Creating immersive and magical experiences for all ages. Be sure to let me know what your thoughts are on gaming music, and if you have any favorites!
