XBLIG IMPRESSIONS: "Fatal Seduction"

Fatal Seduction is a new XBLIG title that was released by the developer 'Silver Dollar Games'. During my recent search for games to review I actually found the foreign trailer of this game on youtube. I believe it was in German, but I can't recall. I passed up asking the developer for a review code, because I wasn't really sure what the game was about. This morning I decided I would check out the trial just out of curiosity.

The story of 'Fatal Seduction' is about a very disturbed young girl named Emily. The intro opens up with an audio interview between Emily, and a psychiatrist. The conversation involves the doctor asking Emily about what she had done before she ended up in the mental hospital. The story plays out in a creepy fashion with Emily telling her story, and audio clips of crime scene footage playing in the background. It turns out that Emily has been seeing angels, and demons. This actually appears to be brought on from Emily's jealousy over her dad's girlfriends. Emily ends up killing every girlfriend he has with a knife, and she thinks she was guided by an angel to do so. After playing through the trial of this game I could actually see it being made into a horror movie, and if it was done right I might actually be interested in watching it.

Gameplay in Fatal Seduction is presented in child-like drawings from Emily's scrapbook. You control a stick figure image of Emily as the elements of her story come to life with similar visuals. You fight various demon drawings, as well as baby (bosses) that pop out of the dead girlfriends' bodies. The sketches of the demons are demented looking, and amplify the creepy music that is constantly being played in the background. During my playthrough of the trial I was able to acquire a knife to use against the demons. I'm not sure if other weapons are available in the full version, but that would be interesting to find out. As you play you'll find that both Emily, and the demons have a life bar at the top of the screen. By killing Demons you are able to replenish lost life with green orbs that are released. I also noticed that when you defeat a demon Emily's stick figure will actually perform some sort of fatality on it. You have no control over that aspect of gameplay though. At the end of the trial I found myself wondering if there were going to be some major boss battles, or even more types of demons.

This game was very unique, and as a horror fanatic It actually sparked my curiosity. I'd defintely be interested in hearing the entire story, and seeing the whole game. I'm not sure if I'd be willing to spend 80 msp on it though? I could definitely see a movie being made of this. The story is told quite well. If you are interested in this title at all I have to warn you, it does contain the highest rating in sexual content for an XBLIG title. The theme of it is also a bit on the disturbing side.
