PC Review: "Space Blasters"

Most people I know have no clue that I also do Adult DVD reviews for a mainstream website. I usually wouldn't mention it, but this article is about a video game that has been promoted by a well known adult female performer. It seems that some of the female performers are actually into gaming like us. Many of them are actually very nice to talk to, and treat their fans with respect. In my career as an adult DVD reviewer I've made friends with a couple of them, and even submitted some of my art for their site. It's definitely nice to see the normal/fun side of performers in this industry.

Chanel Preston, the performer I'm talking about has recently done a Youtube promotional video for the Facebook, and online game 'Space Blasters'. I will not post the video here, but I will leave a link for those who wish to check it out. Keep in mind that it does have some adult language in it (18+). After I watched the trailer myself I went to the site in the description since I'm not a Facebook kind of guy. The site seemed to have no bugs which was good. It allowed you to get right into the game, and skip the ads that were on there.

Space Blasters offers both single player, and online multiplayer modes. I tried out the single player after entering my username as 'OtakuDante'. The controls were a bit awkward for me since I'm not really a keyboard type of gamer. For movement you had to use the W, A, S, and D keys. To shoot you use the arrow keys. My top score ended up being pitiful due to the control setup. It would have been nice if they would allow tweaking options. During my time with the game I was unable to find any players for an online match. It was probably because of the time of day.

The graphics in Space Blasters were simple, and impressive. They featured a vivid neon color scheme that really made the game stand out. The game featured 14 achievements for serious players. Most of them were based on how many matches you had won, or played. Aside from the achievements there was an online leaderboard which is always a good thing for shmup players. I can't honestly see myself ranking in a high position though. The game features the usual overhead asteroids, or geometry wars style of gameplay. It also has unique boss battles. I was only able to make it to the first boss, but ended up failing miserably. If you're a shmup fan I think this game is worth a try.

Space Blasters will probably end up being a hit for PC gamers, but I feel left out being a console gamer. If the developer of this game could release this as an XBLIG game that would be awesome. Other than my issues with the controls I found the game to be rather impressive. I'm just hoping that the developer will read my review, and make this available for the Xbox 360.
