TEKKEN Revolution: "The Fighting Game Fiasco Continues ..."

If you've been following me this year you'll know I'm very outspoken about Namco's money gouging in regards to the "Unlock Eliza" event in "Tekken Revolution". From the beginning of the event forward it has been made apparent that Namco's intentions were anything, but gamer friendly. I do realize that Namco has to make a profit somehow, but the way they've gone about it from the game's release onward is nothing less than highway robbery. Having to pay significant amounts of money for unrewarding, and less than noteworthy DLC content has paved the way for even more greedy schemes on Namco's behalf. Instead of implementing DLC as grand in scale as Tekken's character costume creation mode, or Soul Calibur V's costume based DLC they've practically turned the DLC offerings into a purely profit making business.

It could be said that Namco does good by allowing the game to be free-to-play to a certain extent, but the negative pay-per-play DLC offerings completely outweigh any positive things coming from this partially free gaming experience. Forking over $6 to unlock a DLC character early, or paying $2 for an additional outfit (That's Crap, Btw) is simply not a reasonable option when standard free-to-play offerings are good enough without the paid extras. If money making continues to be the driving force behind this latest Tekken creation then you can bet your bottom dollar it will eventually fail. Add in the fact that the gameplay mechanics were created in a fashion to attract gamers with a CoD mentality, and you have yourself a proper doomsday scenario for the Tekken franchise.

Getting back to the "Unlock Eliza" event though ...

Logging back onto the Tekken Revolution in-game server today I found an interesting addition to the already greedy schemes that were put into place. Starting tomorrow (Thurs. 23rd - Sun. 26th) Namco aims to put into play what they call the "Lots of Blood Seals!" event. This special event as you might imagine is geared toward the paying Tekken Revolution player. For those willing to hand over real world currency for Premium Tickets, and Premium Coins can earn a guaranteed 50, or more Blood Seals for their online mode playthroughs. This goes without saying that it will only count if the opposing player doesn't ragequit, or lagswitch the match to a point where the match is forfeit.

As of now my Blood Seals count is a little over 5,000 in total, and I've yet to spend a single red cent on DLC boosts. The 5,000+ that I've earned is still a far cry from meeting the expected 20,000 Blood Seals needed to unlock the special Eliza character. With that being said though the end date of the "Unlock Eliza" event has yet to have been specified. As such we, the non-paying gamers have no idea if we'll ever be able to gain access to Katsuhiro Harada's recent character creation. As a proper journalist though I will continue my fool's errand of a quest to unlock Eliza, and in the process will strive to keep you informed on any more updates. My hope is that Namco, and Mr. Harada take note of my posts, and come to the realization that there are much better ways to earn the gamers' hard earned money.

Brad (OtakuDante)
