Candy Connoiseur - Runts

This October I thought I'd do something special. Something that coincides with the Halloween celebration, and spirit. That thing being candy. Yes, I said candy. While we like to watch our horror movies, and dress as ghoulies and ghosties the candies we loot have always been a staple of that all encompassing Halloween experience. Throughout my childhood, and even my early twenties I partook of said candy. Probably more than I should have. I can't name offhand how many different candies I've eaten, but I will say there are some good ones to enjoy. In fact while recently out at the local gas station I picked up some candy for this very reason. It was a candy that has been around for many years, and has surprisingly been changed to a more healthy version of itself. The candy in question being "Runts". For those of you who have not had the privilege to taste these fruit shaped hard candies you are missing out. The banana, strawberry, grape, orange, and lime flavors are truly delicious. Even with the health transition towards less sugar, and non-artificial flavoring it still tastes as good as I remember ...

The most important thing to note about "Runts" in particular is that they are a "Made in USA" product, so buying them does help the local economy if you live in the United States. There's that plus side, and the 60 calories per 12 pieces as well as the 13g of sugar per 12 piece serving. Compared to the candies of old this is definitely more health friendly when consumed in moderation. The "Throwback" pack which I got is a decent sized pack that contains 9 servings, and costs a little over a dollar. It's not a bad price, and it contains quite a bit of candy for your money. As far as the candies themselves go they come in banana, orange, lime, strawberry, and grape flavors and shapes as I mentioned earlier. They are small, and definitely not meant for little children though as they can pose a choking hazard. The fact that they are hard candies makes the potential choking hazard worse if they are not chewed up carefully. So do be careful when consuming them.

As both a kid, and an adult partaking of these sweet treats I maintain my favoritism towards them. The flavor is still strong, and delicious. In my opinion it is one of the best candies you can find at the local supermarket, or gas station. My verdict for this healthier throwback version is a numerically favorable, 10/10. If you liked this article or wish to comment about your favorite candies from the past or present feel free to do so!

VERDICT - 10/10
