Hobby Highlight Archive ~ Comic Book Haul (Aug. 2017)

This August I ditched the MARVEL comics purchases despite seeing some interesting series spin-offs of the MARVEL Zombies, and Deadpool fame. I will not support any publication, or entertainment industry provider who lets political ideology ruin their set in stone formula for creative direction, especially ideologies which aim to undermine freedoms, and further the social divide. Sadly, after making my indie comics purchases this time around I returned home only to find DC Comics stepping in the same social sh*t storm as MARVEL did. Only on a more damning note though. 

Using an old heroine named ISIS they intentionally promoted hate against the current US president, and further the promotion of the Muslim/Islamic state through the Muslim outing and re-introduction of the character. This is unforgivable in that the character's namesake in conjunction with DC Comics' new Muslim direction pokes at a raw nerve in regards to the terror group ISIS, and could easily be taken as a slap to the face of those who see ISIS for what it is. I personally will not be buying anymore DC Comics, because of this. Any other comic book publisher who wishes to follow in similar footsteps as that of MARVEL, and DC Comics will not be getting my money.

On a lighter, and less serious note I picked up two different variants of the new Bettie Page comic book. I was actually hoping to find the lewd/nude edition, but missed it by a day. I also picked up two variants of "Lady Mechanika Clockwork Assassin #1". The new B.P.R.D. spin-off series, "The Devil You Know #1" caught my attention as well, and I picked up one of the store's last two remaining copies.

 As a fan of SAGA I couldn't help, but picked up volume 7 of the TPB series along with those other pick-ups too. All good choices, in my personal opinion, and definitely good alternatives to what MARVEL, and DC was selling. If I had any advice to give comic shop owners going forward it would be to stock less MARVEL, and DC comics. Instead provide a bigger indie selection both in single issue, TPB, and Hard Cover variety. It'll be the indies that draw the most attention, and make your store stand out.
