Borderlands 3 | My Own Thoughts & Opinions

Beyond the drama, and past all the technical issues I am personally finding myself engrossed in the Borderlands 3 grind loop. This is coming from a gamer who has never fully completed Borderlands or Borderlands 2. For whatever reason the third installment has hooked me where the others failed to do so. Maybe it's the newly updated mechanics, the new characters, or the engaging plot filled quests and side quests that are more than just target hunts to participate in. For me everything in the game is enriched in some way. Through well thought dialogue, and humor that I actually laugh at I'm finding the entirety of the new Borderlands universe to be alive, and thriving. There's never a dull moment. Whether you are completing the campaign, farming for guns, or engaging with NPCs it all comes together in a complimentary fashion befitting of a Triple A label. In the company of friends or alone there is plenty of fun to be had, and it scales appropriately while rewarding accordingly. Depending on how much the drama surrounding development and corporate PR effects you though you'll either be willing to give it a chance, or not. Just know that there is an entire team of developers involved that may or may not have had the same ideas in dealing with things as the head of marketing did.

Going into this new Borderlands adventure I was deeply skeptical like most. After catching wind of the drama I had second thoughts about things, and even more so hearing of technical issues. Having spent my monthly allotment of gaming funds I had not intended to get the game regardless, but found myself at the local Gamestop trading in old wares for it anyways. In hindsight it was a good decision. Even with the trade being much less than fair in monetary value I feel that I got a fair trade. Something that rarely ever happens. I can see myself sinking some serious time into Borderlands 3, and for once I'm actually having fun playing a game.

While I give it praise, and even suggest it to friends as a good buy it will ultimately be up to you to decide if you will get it. Just know that the game, aside from technical issues, does play well. Especially on the PS4. To me it's worlds better than the previous entries with it's new design elements included. Do note that things said by some outlets about environments being copy & pasted is nonsense though, and that missions or quests are much more involved and quest-like than anything most modern looter shooters have accomplished in recent years. With the quirky narrative, the NPC banter, and your own chosen Vault Hunter throwing some shade here and yonder you'll find some interesting times as you do the bidding of those who would have you do their bidding. Extended play comes in the form of replays where you get to keep your stats & stuff as you continue to level up, and find greater and greater loot. Character customization in the game also seems to be improved upon. You can find the usual heads, gun trinkets, and can even alter the color of the skins that you find in-game. There's that, and the ability to rename your Vault Hunter, and in FL4K's case, his pet. The added skill trees for each Vault Hunter allow you to custom tailor your character for each replay's increased difficulty tier. Needless to say there's a lot to manage, but thankfully managing it all isn't so hard thanks to proper tutorials, and easy menu navigation. With everything accounted for Borderlands 3 is an overall solid experience. Give or take some technical issues ... PLEASE fix the loot RNG!!!

In closing ...

I hope whatever decision you make in regards to Borderlands 3 serves you well. Either way I can understand why some would buy into it, and some wouldn't. I personally found it a worthy buy as did several of my friends. In fact it was my best friend Trouble whom inspired me to take the leap of faith, and get the game. I'm glad I did.
