Demon Pit | Arcade Arena Shooting In Hell

Demon pit, a pit of demons. That pretty much sums up this oldschool 3D arena shooter. You are basically a no named demon hunter who finally succumbs to death, and is thrown into the fiery pits of hell with the very demons you killed in life. While that would be torment in, and of itself, this unnamed and marked protagonist that you are is not unarmed. He comes packing a pistol with infinite ammo, and can collect new weapons as he faces endless waves of demonic denizens. The end goal, being to survive as long as humanly possible before being put back into the fray again with weapons collected remaining available. Outside of the simple plot it is a score based affair with a global leaderboard. A leaderboard with waves completed, and score accounted for.High scores being the endgame.

Options, and modes are about as basic as it gets in Demon Pit. You get one wave based mode with a transforming arena, weapon power-ups, health refills, and a grappling hook for evasion and strategic movement. In this main mode you will face waves of enemies with a set number of varying types of enemies. Dispatching the damned in a set wave will trigger the start of the next wave, transform the arena around you, and offer up new weapons and power-ups for your fighting chance. Getting to a certain point you will face a boss demon, and will have to utilize the hooks and coinciding grappling hook to gain a vantage point for the shots fired. Needless to say certain demons are weaker to different weapons, and not all weapons have infinite ammo. Only the starting pistol has endless ammo with the rest being power-up pick-ups. Managing, and switching between weapons and the grappling hook are the keys to an afterlife long lived.

In the way of options it's basic. You have volume, and language options. That, and a control diagram explaining away control functions. You even get access to the end credits. The leaderboard which holds global & friend based highscore is also available via the main menu. Overall this game is very basic.

The Verdict ...

This is a very simple game with infinite replay value. The endless waves afford you endless opportunities at topping the leaderboard's highest score standing. The fact that the arena you are in is constantly transforming, and the enemies you face constantly changing makes the fight through the waves a more grueling, and skill based affair. While it sounds basic in that you have an assortment of weapons, and a grappling hook only the game's transforming arena makes each wave vary in approach. I can recommend this game, but only if it is $5 or under. Anything above that, and it's a no go. Demon Pit is simply too simple of a game, and while it does hold legit replay value it it is simple.
