Disgaea 6 Complete | A Story Of Hope

Formerly known as "Disgaea 6: Defiance of Destiny" this complete port for the PS4 is a long time coming for fans of the series. It contains all character DLC, all the cosmetics, and new color palettes for customization. That and better graphics than the former Switch version. Intact is all of the game's main plot, and premise as well as the returning 'Super Reincarnation' mechanic tied to the main zombie underling, Zed.

Zed, his frankensteined pug pal Cerberus, and a whole host of other quirky fun loving characters join his fight against the God of Destruction and the tyrannical overlords. Zed, himself, embodies the fight against all odds. A never give up, and never surrender attitude. By repeatedly doing the damage that he can, dying in the midst of battle, and being born again to repeat the process he whittles away at the competition with increasing strength. Forfeiting stats, and transporting to new worlds as he does so. Still with his mind set on the prize.

Instead of going over all the mechanics and details I've already written in my Switch Review of the game I'm going to tell you why I think this is the must have version of the game ...

The Disgaea series, in general, is more bang for your buck. It is the ultimate standard in getting more than what you paid for. The stories are engaging, the characters lovable, and the turn based strategy RPG elements visually, and functionally appealing. It is a narrative driven affair at base level, but well beyond that in the end game. Grinding can go on for months depending on how much time you are willing to spend with the game. Perhaps even longer. It is the type of grind you don't have to pay extra for to reap the rewards. A pick up, and put down experience with chapters dividing the story driven content.

With Disgaea 6 a lot of the mechanics outside of the Super Reincarnation mechanic that allows for unending retries are a rehash of former series features, but not in the lazy copy and paste sense. The game has had a graphic style overhaul, and the game does look distinctly different, overall. I think the story carries it all well with an underlying message of hope through perseverance. It has it's comedic moments, serious moments, and darker moments. Culminating in something vastly more relatable than previous entries, in my personal opinion. I personally love games with hidden meaning, moral lessons, and inspirational messages tied to the story and characters. This game has that. It is a rainbow in the stormy skies. A colorful cornucopia of perfectly cast characters along with complimentary voice acting. Gameplay goes hand in hand with that. Letting the gamer experience the triumph through repeated chances at beating the odds.

If you missed this one, don't have a Switch, or want to experience it again and share that experience in the best way possible this PlayStation port is your chance to do so. I think it's a must have for Disgaea fans. It's something different, and something that's much more than just a mere toss away gaming experience. More than that you are getting a Hell of a deal with all the added DLC included at no extra cost. That's what Disgaea complete editions are good for. I hope, if nothing else, that you at least give the demo a try if there is one. Disgaea 6 Complete gets the Inferno's SO HOT IT FEELS LIKE ICE seal of approval! The highest of highs when it comes to recommendations here. Keep up the good work NISA!!!
