Fortnite OG Recap

I spent the OG season of Fortnite with my two teammates who play regularly. We've stuck together since the permanent release of the Zero Build mode a few years back. It has been our go to mode for battle pass grinding, and has netted us some wins, some losses, and some bling.

Going into the OG season we had our expectations set high. We were hoping, like others, that some of the original battle pass skins would return, but what we got was a sort of remix of those skins as well as a battle pass one third the size of the regular season's. Something Epic greedily charged premium price for. Outside of the battle pass grind the grind for crowns was trying in OG. The revamped map in Zero Build made things extra difficult. On top of that sweats were out in force. I managed to bank 3 Crown Royales in total wherein my team got 6 and 9, respectively. Of course I played a lot less this season than they did.

Map-wise the OG experience could have been much better, in my opinion. It felt like Epic put in a half effort in making it Zero Build friendly, and only upscaled the graphics to kind of match the new PS5 presentation. There was a lot of sniping points, and points that were so out in the open that crossing through them almost always meant certain death. Snipers were a big threat alongside the grenade launchers and rocket launchers which made for a hectic fight to the top. Throw in the return of the planes, and the roller balls and things just got a bit more trying.

While there's definitely a lot to complain about, especially with the item shop offerings and gameplay, I did manage to find a few YouTube worthy moments shared in the company of friends. Friends are what make Fortnite great, as I've always said. It is the ability to congregate, and strategize with friends as you talk about whatever that really sells the game. Take that away, and the game would be just another battle royale begging for money. It does help that there are skins and battle passes to help players better express themselves, and their in-game achievements though.

Speaking of skins I think the Lil Split skin was my team's favorite. That and Omni Man who made a surprise appearance mid season. I'm sure some of you also dug the Slim Shady Eminem bundles as Fortnite tends to cater more to the hiphop and rap scene, and those who like that kind of content. Had I had the vBucks I probably would have gotten Slim Shady and Omni Man, myself.

In closing I'd like to ask you your thoughts on the OG season, and it's offerings. What are you looking forward to in chapter 5, and what did you think about the Big Bang event? Feel free to hit me up on X/Twitter (@OtakuDante) to let me know. I appreciate your support throughout 2023, and hope you stay tuned for future reviews, and articles. Happy Holidays & Merry Christmas! Peace!
