People who know me know that my side job involves interactions with the adult film industry. Just as I'm a journalist for all things gaming I'm also a journalist for all things "Adult". I honestly enjoy both sides of the entertainment spectrum, and love to bring my readers news, and reviews on the latest offerings of each. With that being said though I myself like to keep both topics of discussion separate. As such both my blogs are separate as are my associated Twitter accounts. The dangers of mixing the two could be costly not only for me, but also for the underage gamers who come to me for gaming advice. As such I'm treading a thin line on even bringing this discussion to the forefront, but I think that even as taboo as it may seem it is a relevant part of the gaming industry as of now. This of course brings me to the topic of discussion for today. Recently it was revealed that the adult streaming site "PornHUB" has signed on with Sony to bring to it's customers some "Adult" entertainment. There's part of me that thinks this might be an awesome opportunity, and part of me that is concerned about the whole thing being a witch hunt of sorts.
Visitors of 'PornHUB' will be fully aware as I am that not everything featured there is exactly legal. In fact there's some very shady, and rather taboo porn videos available to the public for free on the site. Every time you visit it you can bet your bottom dollar that eyes are watching what you watch from afar to see if you seek out the taboo, and in this day and age that's risky business. This brings me to my second point. Recently in an update Sony had it's gamers agree to a legally binding agreement that basically allows them to monitor your online activities as well as share that gathered information with whomever the see fit. In other words once you clicked that agree button on your PS3, or PS4 console your privacy grew wings, and flew right out the !@#$% window.
This invasive, and mandatory privacy agreement as well as the joint venture with 'PornHUB' is what has me concerned. First, and foremost it is curious as to why Sony would agree to have a streaming porn app to a site that features some taboo content. It could mean that they are naively going into this business deal not knowing the repercussions of their actions, or they could be secretly joining in on an online witch hunt in which porn lovers are the target. The latter theory definitely worries me seeing as what you now do in the online environment of the PS4 is not private anymore.
My only advice to you is tread with caution if you are even thinking about indulging yourself with the offerings of the PS4 'PornHUB" APP. Definitely avoid any video that looks taboo, and if you have to only watch the ones that you know for certain are legal to view. I hope for the sake of those who have invested their money in Sony's next generation gaming system that Sony has your best interests in mind, and aren't in cahoots with lowlife scum such as the N$A.
