Lucky Game (XBLIG): "Golf + Slot Machines = Lots Of Luck"

In my years as a gamer I have played about every type of video game you could imagine. I've even enjoyed the occassional solitaire card game on my PC. Once in my life I even played the digital slot machines at a casino. Lucky Soft the developers of 'Lucky Game' brought this simple, and legal pleasure of gambling to the Xbox 360 console. This XBLIG game features a new twist on the already random slot machine style of gaming. If your into the casino scene then this type of game might be for you.

Lucky Game took Casino style slot machine faces, and mixed them with trajectory based golf mechanics. The game is practically half golf course, and half slot machines. The game may seems strange at first, but the controls are easily picked up on. You'll find that in order to get the numbers/slots rolling in the game you must land a ball into a hole above the appropriate slot. The aim/trajectory of the ball is determined by where you stop the ball's height, and distance meter. By pressing the 'A' button once you will stop the height cone attached to the ball, and pressing 'A' again when the distance meter is at the right color (Green, Yellow, Red) will launch the ball. Deciding the right height, and distance for the ball to travel in order to land in one slot holes isn't really luck, but the slot machine part definitely is. The slots in 'Lucky Game' feature three rows of numbers each in various styles of fonts. When the ball lands in a hole that slot will begin rolling, and then it's all luck from there. Each slot, or row of numbers has a unique retro style sound/music that pays tribute to the classic gambling machines this game is based on. You will start the game off with only three types of number slots, but gain/unlock more if you are lucky enough to reach high dollar amounts. The game keeps track of your earnings with a scoreboard that includes a set number of tries/attempts. Lucky Game can be played with 1 - 4 players, so you don't have to play alone unless that's the way your roll.

In the end I found that this game is %5 skill, and 95% luck. It's not really a game I would invest in myself, being I'm not really into gambling games. I'm sure there are probably some adult gamers out there that may be into this kind of game, but being that it's mainly luck based I can't honestly suggest it. With that being said the game isn't terrible. I just found that it's geared towards a specific type of gamer. Lucky Soft did bring a new idea to this genre of gaming which I thought was neat. It's always nice to see developers reinvent game genres even if they are simple.
