XBLIG IMPRESSIONS: "Fatal Seduction"

Fatal Seduction is a new XBLIG title that was released by the developer 'Silver Dollar Games'. During my recent search for games to review I actually found the foreign trailer of this game on youtube. I believe it was in German, but I can't recall. I passed up asking the developer for a review code, because I wasn't really sure what the game was about. This morning I decided I would check out the trial just out of curiosity.

XBLA IMPRESSIONS: "Galaga Legions DX"

I'm a fan of both oldschool, and new shmup shooters. In my gaming past I've actually played the old Galaga game, and to be honest I enjoyed the newer shmup titles much more. Recently I heard that NAMCO BANDAI Games Inc. was going to be releasing a DX version of Galaga in response to their very popular PAC-MAN Championship Ed. DX. I was very excited about the news. I used to own PAC-MAN C.E. DX for the PS3, and I was very impressed with it. Namco really went the extra mile with that game, and I couldn't wait to see what was instore for Galaga. This morning I was checking the latest XBLA game releases out, and noticed Galaga Legions DX was at the front of the list. I didn't hesitate in downloading the trial version to see what it offered.

XBLA IMPRESSIONS: "Half-Minute Hero SMNC"

I recently decided to try out the XBLA game 'Half-Minute Hero -Super Mega Neo Climax'. The game was developed by 'Marvelous Entertainment Inc./Opus Studio Inc.'. What drew me to this game were the graphics, and the art style. It reminded me a lot of 'The Legend of Zelda: WindWaker'. Some of the characters in the game actually appeared to be inspired by such a game. After I finished downloading the trial I decided to see what it was all about, and if it was worth the 800 msp price tag that was placed on it.

Mechanoid Army (XBLIG): "Tiny Terrors In A Cute Metal Package"

Recently the developer of the upcoming XBLIG zombie title called 'Zombies Ruined My Day' was kind enough to give me a code to his previous game. The game is titled 'Mechanoid Army', and was released as an Xbox Live Indie Game in 2010. It's a cute little space platformer with a serious back story about the possibility of Earth's demise via robots. After playing through the entire game this morning I have to honestly say I was very impressed.

Future XBLA/XBLIG Game Reviews

In the process of contacting developers about their games I was able to secure two codes for titles that are currently in the works, and will be released in the months to come. One of those titles was for an XBLIG, or possible XBLA game called 'The Bridge' by Hypercubegames. It has a unique artistic quality about it as well as some gameplay mechanics I haven't seen in the games of today.

The second game is from an equally impressive space shooter XBLIG title called 'Orbitron: Revolution'. Matthew Leigh of FireBaseIndustries (the developer behind the game) informed me that they are currently working on a release date. Once I get the codes for these two titles I'll be getting those reviews out to you as well.

NEW Reviews On the Way ...

Recently I got in touch with some XBLIG developers about getting a review code for their game. So far I've got 3 titles on the way - mancebo360's 'Zombies Ruined My Day', solmonus' 'When Maiden's Attack', & sosodevgames' 'Fluffy: Operation Overkill'. As soon as they arrive I'll be getting those reviews out to you guys. In the meantime mancebo360 gave me a review code for his 2010 XBLIG title 'Mechanoid Army' so I'll be working on that. Mancebo360 also told me that he expected 'Zombies Ruined My Day' to come out later this year. Thanks for visiting everyone!

Lucha Fury Developer's Studio Shut Down & Code Giveaway

Recently I was privelaged enough to get a review code for the XBLA title 'Lucha Fury' from Andy M. at xblaratings. I finished the review for him recently, and ended up summing the game up as being a 9 out of 10. I thought it was very deserving of such a rating despite my issues with the in-game stun effects. I was contacted by the developer today with some rather sad news that his studio was shutting down. He didn't give details other than this will be his last game. He did mention that he had read my review at xblaratings.com, and told me he was glad I enjoyed it. He told me that reviewers failed to mention the multiplayer, and co-op that was the main focal point when it came to humor in the game. I unfortunately was one of those reviewers. My only excuse for that is I had no one to share the experience with. I definitely missed out on that. In future reviews I hope I can find someone to do multiplayer with. I think Lucha Fury's developer deserved some reviews with every detail of the game mentioned. It's truly sad when a studio that produces a quality game title such as this has to shut down. My apology goes out the the developer.I'm definitely sorry for not being able to cover the multiplayer aspect of the game.

Righteous Axe (XBLIG): "A Space Shooter That Pays Homage to Heavy Metal"

Recently Microsoft was kind enough to reward me with some extra points. I immediately took the opportunity to invest in a couple of XBLIG titles that included SoftwareByEugene's indie space shooter 'Righteous Axe. Being the heavy metal, and shmup shooter fanatic that I am I was very interested in picking up the game. The trailer I watched showed off hot babes rocking heavy metal style with electric guitars. What's not to like about that?

Bloody Checkers (XBLIG): "A Bloody Good Time"

When I first caught a glimpse of this game I had no idea what to expect. I did watch the game trailer which definitely sparked my curiosity. After brief consideration I sought the developers approval to do the review. He accepted my request and granted me a code. After acquiring the code from him I immeditely turned on my Xbox 360 to redeem it. I was so anxious to see what this game was all about. During my childhood I used to pass my time by playing checkers with friends, and family. I was looking forward to the nostalgic gaming experience even if it was in video game form. Needless to say I was extremely excited to play a version of checkers that payed tribute to the RPG genre, and the bloody video game carnage I've grown to love.

He has been kind enough to give me a code for review, and has kept me informed about some bug fixes that are in the works. Fighting Game Character DLC: "Is It Worth It?"

Recently gamers saw the release of Mortal Kombat's new DLC character 'Skarlet'. If I've researched correctly the 'Skarlet' DLC will cost players $4.99. This isn't bad compared to the DLC characters I bought for 'BlazBlue: Continuum Shift' ($7.99 ea.), but it's still a steep price to pay since it looks like MK's developers are looking to release a lot more characters. I'm all for new characters, but with the economy the way it is, it's getting hard for me to support my gaming habits. Currently I'm only able to focus my money on purchasing gaming necessities, and maybe one new title a month. I'm pretty sure other gamers are currently feeling the pinch from the economy's situation as well. One big issue I have with MK Developer's plan for future character releases is that some of the new ones are actually old ones. I like the old MK characters as much as the next fighting game enthusiast, but if they are going to charge five bucks a pop then I'd like to see brand new characters. That's just my stand on the issue.

Skoddle Game's "Astro Cluster" Possible LIVE Weekend Matches

I've been doing Xbox Live Indie Game reviews just for a short while now. It has truly been a dream job for me, and Andy Merrill of xblaratings.com made that possible. While doing reviews for Andy I reviewed a game titled 'Astro Cluster'. The game ended up recieving a '10' rating which was the highest available on the site. It rightfully deserved it as well. I'm not going to go over the review here out of respect for Andy, and xblaratings.com. If you want to read the review you can find it at www.xblaratings.com. There's also a link to that site here on my blog. After reviewing the game, the developer @Skoddle replied to my review with a kind message complimenting me. It's not every day that I recieve compliments from a game developer, so this was a special moment for me. @Skoddle ended up inviting me to play online with him, and I did not hesitate to accept. The first online match we played was without the headset, but it was still very fun. We ended up sampling all of the multiplayer modes, and had a good time doing so.
